Getting Back in the Game

When I first started selling hemp jewelry, it was in high school – tons of opportunities there. Now that I’m older and semi anti social, I was a wee bit worried about getting set up with wholesalers and other random sales opportunities offline. Apparently there isn’t an issue – I went to one of our regular restaurants today and our normal waitress turns out to have been a total macrame person. That’s cool in and of itself, since she is already a totally awesome person, but then she drops the bomb – she wants me to bring in some pieces to show around. Yay :D Plus she gave me a few pointers on places to get beads cheap around here, although right now I’m bead stored and showed out.

My hemp order was shipped today too – I have mixed brown (which looks amazing), dark brown (my favorite), dusty rose, light blue, turqoise, white, black, and purple hemp coming in. That doesn’t entirely round out my color complement, but I’ll end up filling in the gaps once I start to see a profit off of what I’ve spent so far. So far in restarting up this business I have spent:

$37 on a tackle box to hold everything

$ 20 on overpriced hemp from local stores

$105 on an Etsy hemp order

$300 in beads / findings(trying new materials, checking out Etsy suppliers, bead store, bead show)

$6 in bubble mailers

$16 in business card design

$7 in etsy banner design (matching business card)

$25 in business card printing

$8 for domain

What I have left to do is to get organza bags for making the necklaces look cute in shipping, bulk bubble mailers, maybe jewelry tag cards or price tag cards – not sure which yet. If I end up planning on going to any shows I’ll need to add in displays as well. It’s been a bit of an outlay at first, but I’d rather just get everything covered now than do it in drips and drabs as I go on. I’m done buying beads and such at this point, as I have a good base to make a few hundred pieces off of. Next is getting a good list of local places that might be willing to grab a few batches wholesale or on consignment, along with exploring the flea market and craft show options around here. York, PA has tons of interesting cities within 2 hours, so that really opens up my options a lot more than when I was doing it in Uniontown.
